Sitting around waiting for the skiing to start again Alpinemojo is predicting the future weather. If my research is correct we should be in for cooler climes over the next few years and that might mean more snow than usual next winter. So what is the reason for the Alpinemojo snow prediction?
Answer: Gilbert White (18 July 1720 – 26 June 1793) recorded the effects on world climate after the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Laki in 1783. Laki is just next door to Eyjafjallajokull, the volcano which has caused airlines trouble this year in Europe.
In the years after Laki erupted the climate chilled in Europe and thousands died from famine caused by crop failure due to the cooler weather, I am not sure the size of the current Icelandic eruptions will cause a famine in these modern times, however it might cause cooler average temperatures which could result in fantastic snow conditions next winter season.
If you have found this blog looking for information about next winters snow fall then it might be fair to suggest that you are snow sports addict looking for a fix? If you are then maybe you might also be looking for some top quality ski coaching. So why not dig deeper into the Alpinemojo site – maybe check out our courses or team pages.
In the mean time it is time to enjoy the summer and I am off out the door for a spot of fun.
It is June and summer is here, it is also the time for Alpinemojo to be reflective of the world at large, a time to reassess the view of the outside world from the ‘ski resort bubble’, a time to confirm my view that real freedom can be found in skiing and following a love of snow. So not wishing to add anymore personal opinion, here are two articles from my morning read of the UK newspapers and a little video entitled ‘Headscarfs vs. Beanies’. I’ll let you form your own opinions.
Woman sacked for being to attractive. Debrahlee Lorenzana claims she was sacked because she was too attractive and proved a distraction to her male managers.
After you have had time to read and digest the two above links and watched the video, I want to point you in the direction of Girls Ski Movie.
If you are honest with yourself: Which of the above inspires you to go and out and take charge of your life and live it on your terms. Answers on postcard please.
Saas-Fee the ‘Pearl’ of the Swiss Alps – imagine this in your mind now, your own vision of small mountain village with classic cuckoo clock chalets and hotels nestled in stunning scenery with towering peaks, gravity defying hanging glaciers and perfect deep blue Alpine sunshine sky. Have you got a picture now?
Now add the Popcorn bar, some of the latest sounds, an internationally recognized snow-park with mega half pipes, a radical rails selection, jumps, quarter pipes and finally some great pistes for perfecting technique or mixing it up AlpineStyle.
Well, that in a nutshell is Saas-Fee and the reason why, for last decade, the British freeski scene has made Saas-Fee its summer base camp. If you want to know more about summer time skiing in Saas-Fee then check out the Saas-Fee website or ask the Alpinemojo team about their Saas-Fee summer program.
Well that is the question the Times posed this morning and my mind started to drift, if I dive deep enough will I find the answers to life’s big questions?
But before I dive deep into the sea of life, I ask myself what is life’s big question! Is it: Should I buy that spangly new pair of skis on offer for cheap because it is the summer! Is it: Should I do something different with my life! Or is it: Should I just head to the shore and bury my head in the sand? And O.M.G. what is M3 money supply? The world really is going to end!
How would the world be if everyone discovered how much fun skiing and snowboarding is? All the big questions in life would be almost irrelevent. M3 whatever it is would just fade into the distance and appearing on the horizon is my utopia, my nirvana, an epic powder day, a day carving down a perfect piste or ripping it up in the park.
I’m an A-level student wondering what the future holds once I leave school and enter the big bad world. Or maybe I’m commuting to work on the 7:53 from Reigate, reading about Euro zone meltdown in the paper and staring at the words ‘Great Depression Mark II’ in big black letters. Or I’m stuck in a traffic jam on the M25 going nowhere, just like I have been most mornings for the past few years since I started my glittering office work career.
Whoever I am, my mind is racing trying to find a way out of this madness and a personal alternative to what appears to be a bleak future.
Maybe what I need to do is sit on the sidelines for a year and watch what unfolds; but where can I find a safe haven to ride out the ‘Perfect Economic Storm’? A place where I can escape from stress and hassle, learn new skills and set my sails for an active and productive journey toward fulfilment of a life-long ambition.

Over the last couple of weeks we have had an amazing time skiing some of the lightest fluffiest powder. We have had two successive weekend snowfalls with a few mornings with the sun doing its thing. Over the last two days we have had some low cloud which has brought yet more snow to the middle of the mountain and provided a covering of fresh on the off Piste and on Piste we have some excellent dry winter snow groomed to perfection. All is looking good for everyone to have an excellent time next week on the half term break.
After a shakey start to the season when the snow on Montfort had avalanched back to the raw glacier and the Montfort cable car and piste was shut, I can now say that it is open and conditions are fantastic. Coming out of the cable car and heading for main piste via the traverse which opens up with fantastic moguls followed by a perfectly groomed piste, as can be seen in the background in the picture behind my ski companions for the today Emma and Tinka.
